Sad Princess is a wonderful game. Its cute, its funny, it plays fluidly, and the artwork is gorgeous. Character animations are done exceptionally well, and the style (with several, several beautiful stages) is very reminiscent of Vanillawares work. The gameplay is given depth by allowing stat point allotment, raising up to six different types of pets, powering up with consumable items and upgrading and equipping several different weapons. There are a few rough edges to this gem, though. The pets need to be rebalanced; early on, they are pretty useless. The game feels too easy at times, and its largely repetitive. While I like the gameplay, every stage feels the same, but with more monsters for a longer grind. Its uncertain how character growth is relevant either because I only ever ended up taking poison damage when powering up my defense and attack equally. Still, for a mere 1.99, this game is a good buy. It just needs to be rebalanced; stronger pets, stronger enemies. Perhaps more than one skill for Clover would be nice too.
